The Power of Social Media

The power of social media isn't a new thing. The popularity of various things, has been due to the advent of the social media. The real-time sharing of almost everything online, the eye-catchy things get a lot of attention, through sharing, similar to the word-of-mouth in real-life! The recent one being the maddening popularity of the "Kolaveri Di" song. It had been a sensation on social media, and later on, it caught the attention of the national media, and a huge lot of other people. And there have been various opinions about the song too - not-so-worthy, hilarious, good tune - a mix of everything! But, the truth must be that, it's the sensational popularity of it on the social media like Twitter, Facebook, with the exponentially increasing hits on YouTube, the song became everything. Not that it liked quality though, but the national media would never have played it otherwise. Not that it lacked the quality. But there are lots of other scores which are played

My Book Review: The Notebook

The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks  My second book by Nicholas Sparks. And as expected, it was astonishing. A book about true love, again. In A Walk to Remember , it was about a young couple, experiencing some unique love. And in The Notebook, it's about two people, who lose themselves, and then later on, are reunited by nature. That "destined to be together" scenario. And still, life again plays it's part on them, but they stand strong with their love. How love can overcome certain things! True love, after all, comes to you. And when it is from the heart, there is nothing more valuable and respected than that! Image courtesy: Wikimedia

People!

It's two things that go hand-in-hand most of the times. People and Change! It happens all the time. With time, people change drastically. Not that their physical changes have to be concentrated much. That can't be averted. But it's the mental and emotional change that can be controlled. And it feel drastically ironic, to see people changing. Moving on with their own notions, and treating others like a huge pile of trash, it's not frigging believable !! :o Or rather, it must be that, it's high time waking up to the truth !

Isn't it better to say it to the face?

It's a straight question. Isn't it better to say it right to the face ? I mean, there are various instances in our life, when we don't say things to people. We somehow manage to avoid the situation, or compromise that the situation is covered up. So that, we don't have to face awkward circumstances. But actually, shouldn't we be doing the opposite thing ? In this new age, with means of communication moving into various realms, it has become possible to express yourself in easier ways, than meeting the person, and saying it to the them directly. And definitely, all persons, prefer the better versions of communication, since it doesn't involve so much of embarrassment. When you are texting the person about your anger, your frustrations. The reason for this is the recent incident that I came across. Two friends - staying in touch all the time, meet in person after a long time. But due to some complexes, one was upset with the other. And naturally, when they

The Weekend Mysore Trip :)

A detailed account of the Road trip which me and my family went on, last weekend. :) The Pyramid Spiritual Society It's at the place named Kanakpura. With all the serene surroundings, and a quiet atmosphere, this place looks beautiful. It's a meditation center. Okay, there was this huge Pyramid there. I mean, really HUGE. The concept is that, the shape of the Pyramid is perfect for concentration the cosmic energy into you, and that you can meditate peacefully inside that. It was an interesting visit. I tried sitting inside of it, idle and quite. As in, when everyone enters, they say to them cautiously to stay REALLY QUIET inside the Pyramid, since it might be a disturbance to others. Thus it was a quiet atmosphere inside that. Was a good experience. Shivanasamudra Falls The next place of visit was the Shivanasamudra Waterfalls. Cauvery is the river's name. So the thing about it - IT WAS HEAVENLY !! I mean, it was such a wonderful place and the sight was too pleasu

My Book Review : ONE DAY

One Day by David Nicholls A story revolving around two people, starting from the night after their graduating together. And its an interesting read, as to how the story unfolds their relationship, and how it moves along with the next 20 years. It's a different new concept of story-telling (as in, by what all I have read till now, which is just mere!). It's wonderful, and a must-read for people who want to explore the deeper nuances of love and relationships.

My Book Review : A Thousand Splendid Suns

A Thousand Splendid Suns – Khaled Hosseini This was the second book which I read, written by Khaled Hosseini. The first one being The Kite Runner.  And similar to that, A Thousand Splendid Suns also a ocean of emotions. This time there is an addition, relationships. Relationships as that of a husband, a father, a wife, a mother, a son, a daughter. The story revolves around the lives of two women, beginning from their childhood, and how unknowingly they get intertwined together for life, destined by fate and circumstances. They don’t go together at the start, but at the end they have to. How well and to what extend they do things for each other, is an example of sorts. And at amongst all this time, it also explains the duals that the people of Afghanistan had to suffer during those times. Certain feeling or remorse does come into our hearts, but more than that, there needs to be a lot of appreciation for them too. Because, it is easier said than done. They have to go through a lot of

The art of accusing each other and halting procedures!

Stalled proceedings. Protesting MPs. And a not-so-properly functioning national legislature. Yes, these are the very exact things going in the supreme legislative body of our country, the Parliament. Equivalently in the two Houses, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Whatever happens, the Opposition and the Ruling party, do not seem to go on agreeable terms! Well, giving it a thought, aren't these Members of Parliament been elected by the people to represent their constituency, with the purpose of striking a chord at the Parliament ? And here they are, stalling the various procedures carried at the Houses and the both the Houses adjourning, not even before the mid-day! This is ridiculous! The Parliament should be the platform for political debates, and ensure the proper functioning of various things, through proper intensive debates and so on. A debate is essential to get points of view from all sides. But that's not happening presently. All we see every other day is, the procedures

The curious case of the DRS

When, something relating to the game of cricket is being discussed in India, then it can’t be put out of the spotlight. So has been the case with the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS), or better mentioned as the DRS. The whole cricketing fraternity is trying their best to implement this in the various tour programs that will played in the future. But the BCCI is being adamant about not implementing it. At the recently concluded ICC meeting to decide upon the DRS implementation, it was decided that the various sub-sections of the technology involved will be taken, sans the Hawk-eye technology. The Indian cricket board, BCCI, is against it, as it feels that the technology is not yet up with the standards. But as of now, the condition is that, during a bilateral series, the DRS technologies can be used if both the participating countries agree to it. And the additional reason, why everyone is against the implementation of it, is because of the cost involved. In a bilateral tournament,

Keep thinking dear citizens!

Yeah, all the thoughts about getting a proper Lokpal, for the betterment of the people. And thinking that all the corruption, in this world, will go for a toss. It’s all just a misconception. I don’t think that the actual implementation of a Lokpal, will produce good result. For the record, from where are the people who are going to part of the Lokpal, come from ? Aren’t they from the same system that we are tagging as corrupt, inefficient, and pathetic ? And for that matter, if we do intend to bring the most eligible commoners out of the present system, what remains, will be a total mess! So, we are creating something out of the mess, to gain control of the mess! Interesting ! Absolute ! And the ever-growing issue of including the Prime Minister of the country, under the purview of the Lokpal. If it is being done, then it is going to be a mistake which we knowingly are welcoming. Tomorrow, if we see, that the institution of Lokpal, handed by the people with immense power and authorit

The latest from Google - Google+

Expected to be a fierce competitor to Facebook, Google+ is grabbing the attention of everybody out there. With the amount of requests for invitations "going insane", and various people trying to access various methods to somehow grab that "G+" opportunity. I agree, I also blended into that madness. And until I got there, it was a fierce amount of excitement too. Though the interface almost looks familiar to Facebook, it ain't exactly like that. The inside things differ a lot. The main thing which we DON"T want Google+ to have is the Farms and Citys, growing into some kind of addiction to the users. We definitely wouldn't want that. And the Circles concept is amazing too. You have the option of not-sharing something with a particular group. So altogether, it grabs the attentions. Well, to be accurate, anything new that Google comes up with, does. To watch out for, would be how much success this thing accelerates into. Because, for this thing to grow bey

My Book Review : A Walk to Remember

A Walk to Remember - Nicholas Sparks      A beautiful love story about a teenage couple. It shows how Love can Happen. It shows that there aren't any preconditions for love. There is no criteria for that so and so characteristics of two persons should meet and that they must gel with each other well. Nothing. Love just Happens. That's what the book explains. But it is a sad story, and realizing the true value of love, is what it does. It nearly brought me to tears. First time for me, by a book.

My Book Review - The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini Recently read this book. A wonderful work with blending of emotions. The story was interesting in the way it moved on from childhood to future life of the central character. It explains a lot about life in Afghanistan, though it is way back in the 80s, but still many times I felt really sorry for the life there. In a creation of fiction, it doesn't seem to be safe at all, so in reality, it would be worse.Would suggest anyone to read through it. The story is a definite example of the fact that, we do commit mistakes in our lives, and that there are chances to rectify them as well.

Stop complaining and think ! !

This time, I am writing nothing new. Nothing not-known-to-anyone things. But today I am writing about something which is very well known! Yup. I am talking about the most talked about things in our country today. The C-word. It was around 2 months back that we all felt that we saw a savior in Anna Hazare with his determined desire to bring the Lokpal Bill into it's existence. But before we try to bring all the top-honchos to book, it is important that we do come across the various moments of unusualness which exist in our daily lives. We all usually tend to have a strange affection towards getting things done easily. Jumping up front in a queue, getting a favor from someone to get something done, its considered all so normal. Actually, that's the sole emotional reason, or rather the root of favors. The concept of having contacts must not be the means to get cranky about getting things done in a jiffy. So as long as that sense of accepted-easiness remains etched in the min

Should we exist this way ?

The curiosity of mankind with finding Life on another planet has always been there. Various scientific expeditions, telescopes roaming all over the outer space, various researches going on. And often there are reports all over stating that there are life supporting planets many light years away from our own. Considering the philosophical side of it. Suppose if we do come across such a world, where life exists. We as a life form called HUMANS, existing on this third planet of the solar system called Earth. We have our own definitions for things that exist. It was around 5 or 6 years ago that the planet Pluto was deprived of its "planet" status. And there are various things as well, which we define for our own sensibilities. As humans, we are supposed to co-exist with all the fellow living beings on the Earth. But that's not what is happening. Just wonder, that one day, we do discover that there is a life-existing planet other than ours, and there is a life-form as well

From one magnam opus to another money-churner

Here it is ! India had moved on from the enthralling World Cup win, and was beginning to move on with the enjoyment. But then came the annual money-churning machine of India - The IPL. And this time, with the teams coming fresh after newly roped in auction "commodities" (sorry, players), and many teams coming with a new look with sparkling jerseys. And another change from the previous 3 versions of the IPL was that, there were two more teams in addition to the league this time. The Pune Warriors India and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. So the vacation bandwagon has a different timing, With a couple of players opting the IPL over their national boards, there is certainly the controversy that the players are preferring the IPL because of the higher paycheck. Not necessarily. Because since it also is a shorter format, it doesn't require the tough amount of fitness required for the longer formats of the game. Justified enough, but still isn't that much as compared to the p

And The Men in Blue are the WORLD CHAMPIONS !

YES ! The month long celebration of the greatest event in the cricketing world, has come to an end. And for the whole nation of 1.2 billion ending it on a smiling note ! INDIA wrapped up the ICC World Cup 2011, as the winning side. And then again, proved that the favorites tag, wasn't just a tag! The journey began way back around 49-days back, on February 19th. The first match was between two of the hosting nations, India vs Bangladesh. And that match was a Sehwag blitzkrieg. 175 runs in the opening match. It was a pure indication that the journey of triumph had begun! Sehwag's rollicking 175 against Bangladesh Then, it was a thrilling passage through the group stages for the Men in Blue throughout the tournament. With all the cricket fans, expecting to watch the Little Master perform out of bounds and win, in his sixth time at the global event, the expectations were high. Dhoni & Co. had a task at hand, and that was a very different one. Though the Indian team were

The Cricketing Extravaganza has begun!

Yup. The time is here again ! The biggest sporting event of Cricket is here. And this time it's here in the sub-continent, that is going to be the witness of all the hot sporting action and events. The 10th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup is being jointly held by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, beginning from 19th February. With 14 participating teams, some of which only come into the picture of the World Cup, will be in the race for the coveted title of the World Champions. And this time, it makes all the more interesting because, experts say that such an open World Cup is being held after a long time. There are more than one team that are being taken in as the favorites to win the cup and also the team statistics and their performances also cement these views. And this time, there is a slight change in the format of the game too. Earlier versions of the game had featured the Super Six or Super Eight stage after the League match stages. But this time, it has been changed

The Aero Show 2011

Well, it was on the Saturday the 12th, that I had gone to the Aero Show 2011 being conducted at the Yelahanka Air Force Station. Getting to the parking place was a long route too! Of course, to say about it, would be amazing. Though we had to stand under the hot sun for about 2-3 hours. It was worth it. And there were good pleasuring sites too. It was all crowded with many aircrafts on display. There was our own Tejas, then there was the Hawk and many other whose names are not being recollected in my memory. The day had started with the Surya Kiran display. And was more amazed at knowing from the papers that it's one among the only three of  the 9-aircraft-formation displays in the world. So proud ! And the sight was thrilling too. And there was this another display, consisting of all pilots who were above 60-year-old. Must appreciate the enthusiasm in which they were riding and displaying and all the tricks that they were performing. There were other stalls by different comp

3-day trip to University via Palakkad

For the past 3 days had been on another trip to Palakkad. Actually, the trip was to Thenhipalam. Just that it was via Palakkad. Didn't have any other place to stay. And also, was a chance to meet some of my friends. So, bundled everything into one. So I had left from here in the morning of 21st. Reached there by afternoon and then met couple of my friends. And then, went for a movie. "Marykkundoru kunjaadu". It was good visiting the often-visited theatre, after a long time. Then had food from our usual Thattukada. And then reached our place of stay. Was staying along with my friends, in their rented room. Spent the night there. Was very low on sleep. Talking was more evident. Then on the 22nd, was time for the trip for which I had actually come. Went to the railway station early in the morning, and that too walking. Lucky, that my fellow mates were there with me, they had a small jogging as well. :) And then, after boarding two trains, one from Palakkad and the other

My book review : Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert --- It's been a while since I started reading this book. Got the book, found it interesting and continued reading it. That's how it went. It's actually pleasing to read the book throughout. The various nuances of life experiences, how things can go terribly wrong. And how she manages to get things back on track, are worth a read. It's inspiring and fills you up with lots of positive energy. Things have been put out in so much of detail, it's a pleasure reading it all over. All the situations that the author is trying is put forward, are brought out amazingly, and we feel drifting along the story.

The Big IPL Hungama

Yes, over the past two days, we all have been watching the big IPL Auction 2011, live on the tv, which had been going on at here (i.e. at Bangalore). It was a precursor to the big IPL-4, which would be starting soon after the ICC World Cup 2011, being hosted by India, SriLanka and Bangladesh. Seeing the player auction, it all seemed that all the players were being sold upon as "commodities". But, that's part of the business. Imagine if they were auctioned in their public presence ! It would have been pathetic. Such a situation wouldn't arise, but would be funny watching to it. The 4th version of the IPL was starting afresh, with 2 new teams based from Pune and Kochi, and a fresh set of players for all the teams. The previous 3-year contracts had been over. And for better transparency into the selection of players (following all the allegations and controversies, that had been there regarding the IPL during mid-2010), the auction was shown LIVE on the Tv. But watch
